From Knock Shrine: it has been officially confirmed that Pope Francis will visit Knock during his time in Ireland for the World Meeting of Families in August.
The Holy See Press Office has published the itinerary of the Holy Father Pope Francis for his pastoral visit to the 9th World Meeting of Families in Ireland on 25 and 26 August. The official Papal itinerary is now available on the World Meeting of Families website.
World Meeting of Families
It was announced that Pope Francis will visit Knock Shrine on Sunday 26 August to pray for families as part of his pastoral visit to Dublin. During his time in Knock, Pope Francis will visit the Apparition Chapel and give the Angelus address in front of the Apparition Chapel in the grounds of Knock Shrine.
Commenting following today’s release of the Holy Father’s itinerary, Father Richard Gibbons, PP and Rector of the Shrine said, “It is an honor to welcome Pope Francis to Knock Shrine on behalf of our pilgrims, parishioners, and staff. We are humbled that the Holy Father will come to spend time with us in Knock to pray for families.
“His Holiness has a great devotion to Our Lady and also St Joseph, as represented on his Papal Coat of Arms. It is fitting that he should visit Knock, where an Apparition of Our Lady, St Joseph, St John and the Lamb of God was witnessed on 21st August 1879.”
“St John Paul II visited the Shrine to celebrate the centenary of the Apparition in 1979. We are delighted that Pope Francis will fly into Ireland West Airport Knock to begin his pilgrimage to the Shrine. Monsignor Horan, who was so instrumental in the development of the airport would be very proud to see this day.”
Preparations are underway to make the visit of Pope Francis a wonderful moment of prayer for families across Ireland and across the world. We look forward to sharing the unique message of Knock with visitors from home and abroad.
The visit of Pope Francis to Knock Shrine will be a ticketed event and tickets will be free. Those interested in registering for this event in Knock Shrine will be able to do so from Monday 25 June.
Those who would like to attend must register at the World Meeting of Families website. Tickets may only be obtained by registering online via the WMOF2018 website. www.worldmeeting2018.ie
